Watch: J. Cole drops ‘Album of the Year (Freestyle)’

There’s no question J. Cole was serious when he said he wanted beats.

As Lil’ Wayne once said, “feed me rapper or feed me beats.” Rather than jumping on a new beat sent to him or producing his own, Cole is working during his “off-season” and releasing some new content. This coming after he released KOD just four short months ago.

In the era where digital media is prevailing, it’s not surprising. The most surprising part is Cole’s desire for beats. Normally he produces his own, as he has with his last couple of albums — but now he wants to test the market.

“Don’t wanna f—k up my vibe/
let’s send it on a positive note/
come see me live/
K.O.D.
album of the year,
un-de-bate-ably/”

What else does he have in store?

Hensley Carrasco
Hensley graduated from the University of Rhode Island where he was the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, the Good 5 Cent Cigar. He founded the site with hopes to add to the ever-growing digital music newsroom. Hensley generally writes about Hip-Hop, but other genres are not out of his writing spectrum. On the side, Hensley is a photographer, specializing in concert photography.
