The “Studio” rapper and TDE signee calls on Kanye West for his newest release.
In what has been an eventful end of the week, in regards to music, ScHoolboy Q released “THat Part” yesterday. Though he hasn’t released an album in a couple of years, it looks as though Groovy Q, born Quincy Matthew Hanley, is taking the proverbial steps toward a new project release. He’s mentioned that he’s handed in his album to the label and is being mixed–meaning it can be released at any moment.

“THat Part” has a feel familiar to those who follow the Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) camp closely. The track has an eerie, mysterious beat much Kendrick Lamar had on his song “untitled 07 | 2014 – 2016” off of his surprise-release untitled unmastered. Groovy Q’s track even includes a repetitious bridge similar to that of Kendrick’s song. With “untitled 07,” Kendrick continuously repeats “levitate, levitate, levitate” to conclude his verses, whereas ScHoolboy Q uses the title of the song to repeat. The song also draws influence from “untitled 02 | 06.23.2016” where West says “Get top on the phone.”

Q’s last single, “Groovy Tony” was released last month and it looks as though he’s beginning to release music more frequently.
