Watch Brent Faiyaz rise like a phoenix in ‘Gang Over Luv’ video

With the release of Sonder Son last October, Brent Faiyaz surged to the forefront of R&B lists everywhere.

Since that release, however, there hasn’t been much in the way of releases or updates from Faiyaz. He has been touring the country, but this day and age fans want more content.  Fast forward to 2018. In February, Faiyaz dropped the single “Make Luv” and just yesterday, Faiyaz delivered new visuals for “Gang Over Luv,” a track off of Sonder Son.

The video was directed by Faiyaz and Noah Lee and provides a deeper meaning than what is on its surface. In a statement explaining the direction the video was taking, Lee explained how there had been two videos in one.

“Amongst the mayhem of a film crew and cameras,” HYPEBEAST wrote Lee said. “[A] video within a video: A phoenix rises from the ashes of destruction…’Gang Over Luv’ sacrifices the thematic plight of the sonder video—the sheep is hunted by the wolf, the plane crashes and burns in an empty field . . . and in its place, Brent Faiyaz, the sonder son is born.”

The song begins with the instrumental used in “Home,” Sonder Son‘s intro track and then leads into “Gang Over Luv,” the same way the two tracks flow on the album. Check out the video above and let us know if you find any other details or subtleties.
