Youngin True Readies New Project, Releases New Single ‘Frenemies’
The Boston-based singer-songwriter returns with another single off of his to-be-dated, upcoming project, Temporary Favors.
We first brought you Youngin True a couple of months ago when he dropped the official video for “Say Less,” another single off of Temporary Favors. With no definitive date set for the new project, we continue to enjoy releases as they come in.
The video features True and his friends playing pool while enjoying some drinks and food. Unlike his last video, Directed by Georgia-based UV Lifestyle, True is, for the most part, on his own. Objectively, it’s almost as if his song “Say Less” was directly related to “Frenemies.” For example, he sings the following:
“Yeah these streets get cold/
I gotta keep lil shawty safe”
Here he’s singing to a girl and how he should be the one to protect her. He uses their shared experience to empathize and relate to her.
“you been through some sh—/
heard they switched up on you too/
one day you was riding/
then one day you ain’t cool”
The transition between songs could have been a breaking point reached by True and the leading lady. At the beginning of “Frenemies” he’s talking over the track and mentions “things that are meant to happen will.” A foreshadow of sorts for the tempo and message of the song. He continues on and sings,
“I can’t love these hoes/
they take my energy”
There we relate his thoughts on the previous relationship and why he’s taking it solo. It very well may be a reach, but it’s interesting to see the development of a backstory for the artist. We’re excited to see what he has in store for the project.
