Once again, returning with their jester-themed shenanigans, The Garden has started their 2018 with new singles and music videos.
The two singles, “No Destination” and “Stallion,” come off of their new album Mirror Might Steal Your Charm — set to release March 30th.
The video for “No Destination” mostly revolves around an individual in face makeup and a full, bright orange and yellow jester costume as he drives around the barren deserts of California. The video starts off with a cute wolf-like dog being left tied up to a tree as his owner rides off onto what seems to be some mysterious quest. The individual passes by certain peculiar scenes, but they get intense as the story progresses; for example, stopping in the middle of the desert at night where an unseen something haunts the rest of his night.
Surprisingly, The Garden twins are not the main focus in this music video. Instead, they only appear in this one captivating shot toward the end of the video in the inside of a corner store — making it one of the most iconic shots of the twins. The song is followed by an unforgettable synthy piano melody and a vital bass riff.
The “Stallion” video is a lot shorter, but in the minute and 50 seconds they provide for us, they pack a nimble little video. I’d like to say I personally appreciated the scattered tempos throughout the measures of the song — constantly going from fast to slow, which makes it this great inconsistent sound. It kept the adrenaline running through my body.
The video captures the most obscure visions, but gives the little narrative of a rich looking man being followed by a devil. This video was more of a metaphor that picks at the skin.
The Garden twins are gradually showing us the probable sound they want for their new album, that being a sound similar to their other albums. They continue to offer their punk aesthetic and upbeats that set the sound of their new album.
The upcoming release of Mirror Might Steal Your Charm in March is complemented by a European and North American tour. Here are the dates:
