Rae Sremmurd and Gucci Mane notch their respective first No. 1 Billboard hit with the track.
After being No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week, Rae Sremmurd saw their track jump eight spots to take out The Chainsmokers for the top spot on the list.
The surge in charting positions are aided by the widely successful Mannequin Challenge videos–a viral video that began with a video by a student at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Fla. The popularity of Rae Sremmurd’s Gucci Mane-featured song gained traction after others began to perform the Challenge with the song eventually leading to the duo performing their own variation of the challenge using one of their songs.

Interestingly enough, Paul McCartney–a member of The Beatles–participated in a solo Mannequin Challenge and tipped his cap to the “Black Beatles.”
Love those Black Beatles
The song took out “Closer,” The Chainsmokers’ Halsey-featured track, that sat at the top spot for the last 12 weeks. According to Billboard, the song jumped in a number of metrics to solidify its top spot.
It vaults 16-1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, up 320 percent to 144,000 downloads sold, according to Nielsen Music, and 5-1 on Streaming Songs (43.3 million U.S. streams, up 122 percent). Of its streams for the week, 20.8 million are from YouTube plays (up from 8.7 million) and 12.1 million are from Spotify clicks (up from 5.8 million). The track also roars 5-1 on Billboard’s audio subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart with 22.4 million on-demand streams, up 108 percent.
Rae Sremmurd is a hip-hop duo made up of Khalif “Swae Lee” Brown and Aaquil “Slim Jxmmi” Brown. The group is signed to Mike WiLL Made-It’s Ear Drummers label which is where the duo got their name–a reverse spelling of “Ear Drummers.”
