A$AP Mob –¬†Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends

Four years after their first release as a collective, the A$AP Mob released¬†Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends on the very last day of October. The album features regular active members of the Mob including A$AP Rocky,¬†A$AP Ferg,¬†A$AP Twelvyy,¬†A$AP Nast and¬†A$AP Ant.¬†The mixtape’s cover pays tribute to the founder of the group, A$AP Yams, who passed away¬†in 2015¬†after an accidental overdose. Other artists who appear on the project include Tyler, The Creator, BJ The Chicago Kid, Wiz Khalifa,¬†Skepta, Lil Yachty, Lil Uzi Vert¬†and more.

Big Sean – “Bounce Back” / “No More Interviews”

Big Sean has been quiet since his last release, but returned with two new tracks after announcing fans would get new music on Instagram.

Curren$y –¬†Andretti 10/30

Curren$y continues his series of mixtapes being released every¬†month with Andretti 10/30.¬†His work ethic is seemingly unmatched as this is¬†mixtape number 12 for him in 2016. Sticking with the smooth beats and laid back style he always has, this mixtape doesn’t¬†disappoint for those fans who know his method of rapping. The mixtape features production from well-known producers such as Cardo, Purps (of 808 Mafia) and King Thelonious.

D.R.A.M. –¬†Big Baby D.R.A.M.

After gaining traction in the¬†public music eye with his first release, “Cha Cha,” D.R.A.M.‚Äď pronounced Dram‚Äďmade waves with the singles “Broccoli,” featuring Lil Yachty. The song’s popularity grew at a rapid pace, charting on Billboard and remaining as the number one streamed song on Soundcloud for many weeks. Fast forward to October 2016 and D.R.A.M.¬†has his first album featuring the likes of Young Thug and even the legendary Erykah Badu.

Dame D.O.L.L.A –¬†The Letter O

Not only known for putting up MVP-caliber numbers on the basketball court, the Portland Trailblazers’ superstar point guard Damian Lillard released his¬†debut album this month. Featuring the likes of Jamie Foxx, Marsha Ambrosius, Juvenile, and Lil Wayne, among others, Lillard‚Äďor Dame D.O.L.L.A‚Äďreleased¬†The Letter O¬†to some praises. Unfortunately for Lillard, the¬†ever-present tension¬†between Wayne and¬†the stranglehold his label has on what¬†features and content he puts out has forced his hand into removing Wayne from the song “Loyal to the Soil.”

Lillard has also featured his rapping abilities in State Farm commercials.

Drake – “Fake Love,” “Sneakin’ (feat. 21 Savage)”

Game – 1992

Gucci Mane – WOPTOBER

Joe Budden –¬†Rage and the Machine

Mickey Factz –¬†The Achievement: circa ’82

After 8 years, Mickey Factz has released his¬†album,¬†The Achievement: circa ’82.¬†The New York-artist linked up with producer Nottz to bring hard-hitting beats to the versatility of his lyrics. The 10-song album comes in at a little more than a half hour, but doesn’t disappoint for old fans and new. Among the artists who appear on the album, listeners will hear the sounds of Curren$y, Phonte and even New York’s own Smoke Dza and Styles P.‚Äďof D-Block/The¬†LOX.

Pusha T – “H.G.T.V.”

As previously covered in a post this past month, the G.O.O.D. Music president released visuals for his newest song first on Snapchat and¬†YouTube. Push is preparing for the December release of his upcoming album and with the release of “H.G.T.V.,” it looks as though he has a good starting point.¬†Sidebar:¬†He did also release a song “Circles” with good friend Desiigner and Ty Dolla $ign, but the song felt too commercial and not the kind of song we know¬†Pusha T to put out.

Y.G. – “One Time Coming”

The Avalanches – “Because I’m Me”

Cloud Nothings – “Modern Act”

The Growlers – “I’ll Be Around”

Though having originally released the song in September, The Growlers released the music video for their song “I’ll Be Around” in October.

Radiohead – “The Numbers”

The Shins – “Dead Alive”

STRFKR – “Open Your Eyes”

Interesting in name, STRFKR, holds true with a rather interesting music video.

Two Door Cinema Club –¬†Gameshow

It’d be correct to say that this Two Door Cinema Club album sounds different than their previous release. Sounding different isn’t always a bad thing, as sometimes it can be the turning point in the direction¬†that a band would like to go in. In this case, the Two Door Cinema Club needed to follow up the success of their previous two releases and, after a four year absence from music, they released¬†Gameshow.¬†The album has more of a funk/disco feel to it and it works for the band, for the most part.

Other notables:

  • The xx confirmed they are working on their third album.

Avenged Sevenfold –¬†The Stage

In a¬†move that was¬†unexpected by many fans, rock-group Avenged Sevenfold released a new album. The 11-song album was thought to have been¬†by a different name and different date after media outlets took a post by Chris Jericho to be¬†a screw up in which he “leaked” information about the album. That post helped maintain the secrecy of the album and¬†allowed Avenged Sevenfold to not only release it as a surprise digitally, but release¬†hard copies on the same day.

Other notables:

  • ABBA announced a reunion, which will take place in 2018. They’re calling it the “Virtual and Live Experience.”
