MGMT Honor Late Suicide Vocalist Alan Vega, Cover ‘Goodbye Darling’

Though having been relatively quiet since their self-titled 2013 release, MGMT honored the late Alan Vega with a cover for one of his songs.

MGMT has always been influenced by Suicide and with the passing of frontman Vega last Saturday, the duo honored him and released a cover to Vega’s 1983 song “Goodbye Darling,” from the album Saturn Strip.

For comparison, here’s the original version of the song.

A couple of months ago, MGMT sat down with Suicide’s Martin Rev in a Back and Forth interview by Noisey.

Though not having released a full-lengthed album since 2013, the band has previously tweeted an announcement of an impending return for 2016, but their releases have been few and far between. They did change their Twitter avatar in May with what could be the cover of their next project, but only time will tell. With six months still left in the year, it isn’t too late to release a surprise project.
