Music Icon Prince Found Dead at Minnesota Estate

The singer known for hits such as “Purple Rain” and “Kiss” has died.

In what has been a year of young deaths in the music world, legendary singer Prince was found dead at his Chanhassen estate Thursday. The singer was 57.

unable to revive him, at 10:07 a.m., the personnel on scene confirmed his death. According to TMZ, Prince was found unconscious in an elevator in his residence.

His death is currently being investigated and an autopsy will be performed by the Midwest Regional medical examiner. There has yet to be a determination on what could have been the cause of his death. Prince’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, released a statement regarding the death:

“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57.”

On April 15, Prince’s plane was diverted for an emergency landing due to a health concern, according to TMZ. TMZ writes the singer had been sick with the flu for a couple of weeks, but still wanted to make it out to his scheduled performance in Atlanta.

Prince has a number of accolades to his name. Not only does he have a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award, the singer also boasts seven Grammy Awards and has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He sold more than 100 million records throughout his career and with his recent passing, his music sales and rankings have shot up through the charts.
