Future-soul group Hiatus Kaiyote premiered a remix to their song “Laputa” on Complex earlier today, a couple of days before they’re set to release a new EP.
The Melbourne, Australia, group plans to release an EP this Friday titled Recalibrations Vol. 1., which will feature remixes to songs originally on their last album Choose Your Weapon. Producer Taylor McFerrin takes the reigns on the track and adds in his own sounds to add an extra energy to the song. Though it sounds different than the original version, it loses none of the quality the original had. To complete the sounds of the remix, Anderson .Paak lends his vocals with a verse toward the end of the song.
The group has received critically acclaim throughout the past couple of years. Their accolades include being named Breakout Artist of the Year for 2013 by Gilles Peterson and a couple of Grammy nominations for their songs “Nakamarra,” featuring Q-Tip, and “Breathing Underwater.” They lost to Snarky Puppy and Lalah Hathaway’s “Something” and The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” respectively.
