Former hardware store clerk Kiiara released her long-awaited debut low kii savage and dropped a video for her indie pop hit “Gold.” The song, which debuted back in June, was an underground hit and has set the 20-year-old up for success. The song has more than 48 million Spotify hits and ranked at the top of Spotify’s most viral songs in the U.S. and Global market in November 2015.
Produced by Felix Smith, who is a collaborator to SZA, who is signed to Top Dawg Entertainment along with Kendrick Lamar and others. The chopped and spliced vocals offer a smooth jerky mix laced on top of an R&B and alt-pop beat. The video goes well with the tempo of the song. For the better part of the video, Kiiara is sitting on a throne in a studded leather jacket while the action around her is captured using a mix of smooth, sharp and disorienting cuts and transitions.
Kiiara is set to play at Lollapalooza this summer. The music festival has served as a launching pad for many rising artists and recently announced its full lineup.
